SHHS Volleyball Teams

SHHS volleyball team

On Friday, 28 April 20 students from Years 8 to 12 represented our school at the Northern Illawarra Volleyball Gala Day held at Bulli High School.

The girls' team started the day in the Old Gym with two heated matches against Bulli HS and WHSPA, who would go on to take 1st and 2nd place on the day. Feeling emboldened by holding our own against our strongest competitors, the girls never lost their fighting spirit and went on to win against Woonona HS and Corrimal HS, ultimately coming in 4th out of 7 teams!

In the Kerryn McCann Gym, the boys' team were on fire all day, claiming victory in all their games bar their match up against Woonona. Despite maintaining a steady lead for the majority of the game, we were dealt six scorching services aces from a nationally ranked beach volleyball player in the final minutes. Nevertheless, the boys retained their composure and good sportsmanship, ultimately ending the day in equal 1st place with Woonona.

Congratulations to all our players and best of luck to the boys team at the upcoming Northern South Coast Volleyball Gala Day!

On Tuesday, 9 May the Smith's Hill HS boys volleyball team competed at the Northern South Coast Volleyball Gala Day, having placed equal 1st in the Northern Illawarra tournament two weeks prior.

With only five teams vying for the top 3 spots, competition was fierce from the get go. Our first match against Woonona HS ended narrowly in a loss after a 20-21 2nd set. Nevertheless, the team was unfazed and continued to play tirelessly against Kiama HS, Albion Park HS and Corrimal HS, winning each match in 2 clean sets and demonstrating good sportsmanship and teamwork all the while. A special mention to our youngest player, Sebin Park (Yr 9), who single-handedly won over a dozen points from his devastating serves alone on the day.

Congratulations to all our players and best of luck at the upcoming South Coast Regional Volleyball Gala Day!
