The High Potential and Gifted Education Policy promotes engagement and challenge for every student, regardless of background, across intellectual, creative, social-emotional and physical domains. The policy supports every student to achieve their educational potential, through talent development opportunities and differentiated teaching and learning practices to ensure that their specific learning and wellbeing needs are met (NSW Department of Education).
SHHS utilises an ongoing, holistic identification process which gathers and interprets student growth and achievement data and their involvement in extra-curricular activities. We are actively refining the process in order to identify the individual abilities and needs of high potential and gifted students, as well as supporting differentiated teaching and learning enabling students access to a flexible curriculum and opportunities for greater choice. We also focus on the social and emotional domains of HPGE through programs that develop resilience, motivation, effort and perseverance.
