NAPLAN
NAPLAN testing took place during Week 9 and a thank you to our students and staff for their patience and perseverance when technical issues state-wide impacted some days of the testing.
UNIFORM SHOP
Thank you to the many parents and students who have provided feedback to us regarding the uniform shop and some difficulties with supplies and communication. We had a meeting with School Locker this week to highlight these issues and have asked for better communication and the rectifying of supply issues in a prompt manner. Uniform is an important element of our students feeling connected to our school and, as such, there should be no issues with supply. We hope these issues are rectified soon and we will continue to provide updates as we receive them.
Currently there is no stock (even if the website says there is) for the following items:
Sports Polos: Size, 10, 12 and 14
Sport Shorts: Size s and M.
Senior Shirts: Sizes 16, 18, 20, 22
Blouses: Size 10
This year we have been able to provide second hand uniform items to students when they have been unable to purchase the correct sizes. We now have little left over, especially in senior shirts and sports polos. If families have any quality second hand items that they wish to donate to the school, they would be greatly appreciated. These can be dropped off to the front office. We only want uniforms that are not stained or torn.
Winter Uniforms:
We have been assured by School Locker that there is no shortage in the supply of winter items.
ELECTION DAY
Smith’s Hill High School will be used as a polling venue on Saturday for the state election. The P&C in conjunction with Lucassen Catering (our school canteen provider) will be selling the ‘democracy sausage’ and other items for consumption. Feel free to come along and support our P&C and canteen.
ENERGY DRINKS
There can be no doubting the impact of a healthy diet on the minds and bodies of our students. Good sleep and nutrition go hand in hand with academic success and general wellbeing. As such, at SHHS we have taken the stance that energy drinks are NOT to be brought onto school premises and consumed during school hours. If students are found with energy drinks, they will be asked to hand them over to the teacher and can be collected at the end of the day by parents or carers from the front office. We will begin to disseminate this information to families and students over the rest of this term via emails, newsletters and assemblies. Your support in this process would be greatly appreciated.
There is a great deal of research from Australia and around the world that indicates the issues with energy drinks in adolescence. I have included some of these for your reference.
