Welcome back to Visual Arts News. The year certainly is moving along quickly!

Year 7

Year 7 students have settled in to their Art classes and have been working through the Elements of Visual Design. This knowledge will improve their creative skills and their ability to decipher the highly visual nature of the 21st Century world we live in. Students have already begun to produce some great Art works and are currently busy designing a cover for next year’s SHHS Student Diary. (See image above). One successful student, out of our 120 Year 7’s, will have their design grace next year’s cover.

Year8

The Year 8 Art Extension class have recently completed a case study theory task on two artists of their choice. Students are now beginning the creative process leading to sculptural artwork, after producing some excellent paintings. (See images).

Stage 5 Drawing Elective

Students have recently been using their tonal skills to complete a still life study. We have moved on to drawing environments using the correct perspective to achieve depth as well as applying tone to create the illusion of 3 Dimensions in an artwork.

Year 11 Visual Arts

Students are currently working through further experimentations of media and material processes, through drawing, painting and now sculpture. (See image below). The class has also begun the process of Artist Case Studies research which will inform their own art making practice, knowledge and ability to successfully answer Visual Art exams.

(Year 11 Students may consider this HSC STUDIO INTENSIVE PROGRAM at the NATIONAL ART SCHOOL in Sydney:  https://nas.edu.au/education-outreach/hsc-program/).

Year 12 Visual Arts

Year 12 students are busily developing their Bodies of Work now that their concepts have been decided. Sarah Bradley for example has begun a series of paintings for her expressive form submission. (See Image below).  The practical due date is still a way off, but will as always loom all too soon. In the meantime Year 12 continue to work with focus in the studio and refine their art theory skills for the HSC exam.

ARTWORK SHOPS & ACTIVITIES:

Even if your child is not currently studying Visual Arts, they may like to participate in an Art Workshop available locally or in Sydney.

WOLLONGONG CITY GALLERY – ART SMART AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM:

You may have a younger child interested in Visual Arts. ART SMART is an introductory course for primary school children who want to improve their artistic skills through a range of fun and stimulating exercises. Lessons are taught by a primary school art teacher and range across various art practices and mediums.

NATIONAL ARTS SCHOOL - CREATIVE KIDS PROGRAM:

NSW Government is helping your cost of living including Creative Kids, which is all about making it easier for school-aged kids (4.5 to 18 years old) to get involved in creative and cultural activities. Parents, guardians and carers can claim a $100 voucher per year to put towards the cost of lessons and fees with registered providers. It’s a great opportunity to let kids find their passion and learn new skills. Vouchers can be used to contribute to registration, participation and tuition costs for performing arts, visual arts, coding, languages, literature, music and other creative and cultural activities with our approved list of activity providers.
