42nd Annual Australian Mathematics Competition 2019 (AMC)
Results are now available for this competition sponsored by the Commonwealth Bank. Hundreds of thousands of students in primary and secondary schools from around 40 countries sat the AMC on Thursday 1 August 2019. This is one of the largest single events on the Australian education calendar which began in 1978 and has participants from Australia, the Pacific and South East Asian regions.
It is with great pleasure that the Mathematics Department of SHHS would like to announce some outstanding results from this Mathematics competition.
This year 144 of our students entered, a wonderful result for :
Andrew Yan – Year 8 who received a MATHEMATICS PRIZE
Andrew has also achieved the ‘Best in the School’ Award for the most correct responses answered consecutively. He was invited to participate in the AIMO (Australian Intermediate Mathematics Olympiad) 2019 in which he achieved a Distinction level.
Furthermore, the following eight students each achieved High Distinctions:

Our students also achieved 45 Distinctions, 64 Credits and 27 Proficiencies Awards.
OUTSTANDING RESULTS ALL ROUND!
The Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians 2019 (MCYA):
The MCYA Challenge Stage involves six problems held during a consecutive four week period. A pleasing result from Emily Read - Year 9 who obtained a distinction!
Australian INTERMEDIATE Mathematics Olympiad 2019 (AIMO):
Once again a pleasing result from Andrew Yan - Year 8 who obtained a distinction!
ICAS Mathematics Competition 2019 – (UNSW):
International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is a suite of six full-colour competitions designed specifically for primary and secondary students. ICAS are conducted annually in Australia and in over 20 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, Pacific countries, and America. Results are now available for the ICAS Mathematics Competition by UNSW, which was held on 19 September 2019. 160 students participated from SHHS. The results:
Andrew Yan – Year 8 received a Medal. Andrew attended the ICAS Medal Ceremony on Wednesday 27 November 2019 to receive his medal at the UNSW.

We also achieved 56 Distinctions, 66 Credits, 12 Merit and 17 Participation Awards.
High Distinction and Distinction certificates will be issued to students at the awards ceremony. All other certificates will be given out in their maths classes.
