41st Annual Australian Mathematics Competition 2018 (AMC)
Results are now available for this competition sponsored by Commonwealth Bank. Hundreds of thousands of students in primary and secondary schools from around 40 countries sat the AMC on Thursday . This is one of the largest single events on the Australian education calendar which began in 1978 and has participants from Australia, the Pacific and South East Asian regions.
It is with great pleasure that the Mathematics department of SHHS would like to announce some outstanding results from this Mathematics competition.
This year 168 students entered with 6 scoring High Distinctions.
Andrew Virgona – Year 12
Andrew has achieved the ‘Best in the School’ Award for the most correct answers consecutively.
Six High Distinctions
Year 7 - Anthony Marsh, Andrew Yan, Angus Kiang
Year 10 - Phillip Thomas
Year 12 - Andrew Virgona, Ellen Zheng
We also achieved 57 Distinctions, 80 Credits, 24 Proficiencies and 1 Participation Awards.

The Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians 2018 (MCYA)
MCYA Challenge Stage
MCYA Challenge involves six problems held during a consecutive 3 week period. This year we had 4 entrants who all scored very well.
Year 9 - Sooyoung Moon - Distinction

MCYA Enrichment Stage
MCYA enrichment involves a series of problems dedicated to a famous mathematician (eg Euler, Gauss, Noether or Polya) over a period of 16 week challenge.

UNSW Senior Mathematics Competition 2018

ICAS Mathematics Competition 2018 – (UNSW)
International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) is a suite of six full-colour competitions designed specifically for primary and secondary students. ICAS are conducted annually in Australia and in over 20 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, Pacific countries, and America.
Results are now available for the ICAS Mathematics Competition by UNSW which was held on the 9 August 2018. 185 students participated from SHHS.

Year 9 - Sooyoung Moon, Ajay Rindani

Year 12 - Andrew Virgona, Ellen Zheng
We also achieved 55 Distinctions, 90 Credits, 12 Merit and 13 Participation Awards.
High Distinction certificates will be issued to students at the awards ceremony. All other certificates will be given out at year meetings or in their maths classes.
