On Saturday 26 August the debating team of Uditha Jith, Isabella Matthews and Laura Charlton (coached by Elinor Stephenson) travelled to the Sydney University Open Day to compete in the Debate USA Final.
This team had to proceed through 3 gruelling rounds of debates against some very prestigious Sydney schools to get this far. In the final they were against Sydney Boys High on the topic of the USA renegotiating key alliances.
In a highly sophisticated debate that showcased all students' detailed knowledge of politics and History, Sydney Boys were announced as narrow winners.
A huge thank you to Elinor Stephenson who gave up precious time during her Trial Examinations to coach this team. The loyalty and dedication shown by SHHS debaters never fails to delight me. Congratulations to Uditha, Isabella and Laura on a great competition!
