The da Vinci Decathlon is an internationally recognised academic competition that is designed to challenge gifted and talented students and promote a love of all learning, emulating Leonardo da Vinci’s polymathic pursuits. Arguably the most demanding and prestigious of academic competitions, the decathlon participants compete in teams of eight against other teams of eight, in 10 academic areas consisting of Mathematics, Science, Art and Poetry, English, Engineering, Ideation, Creative Producers, Code Breaking, Cartography and the new topic, Legacy.
The Year 11 team, in their final year of eligibility, finished 3rd in Mathematics, 9th in Art and Poetry, 12th in Creative Producers, and 14th in Cartography.
The Year 9 team finished 5th in Ideation, 15th in Mathematics and 8th in English for a very respectable overall 5th place finish against 170 plus Year 9 teams.
The Year 10 team finished 1st in Creative Producers, 1st in Science, 2nd in Art and Poetry, 4th in Engineering, 5th in Code Breaking, 7th in Mathematics and 7th in English for an overall 2nd place finish, Smith's Hill's highest State finish to date!
More importantly than the excellent results, the students tested their critical thinking skills, creative ability, intellectual capacity and team work with the integrity and enthusiasm we come to expect of Smith's Hill High School students.
