Welcome back to Visual Arts News.

It’s rapidly approaching the end of the year and Smith’s Hill Visual Arts students have had quite a busy time creating of late…..

Year 7 Visual Arts

Year 7 students have been completing work on the ‘Ceramic Hybrids’ Unit of work. This involves designing and then creating a creature which combines other animals, plants and/or inanimate objects into a new hybrid species. The artworks are constructed from clay and once fired, richly painted. This project utilises the fundamental art knowledge gained in semester one, and challenges student’s abilities to translate an idea in three-dimensions. Year 7 have done a great job with this task! (See image below)

Year 8 Art Extension Elective

Year 8 Students are utilising their knowledge and skills gained in their Year 7 studies to explore and develop their art making abilities. They have experimented in art making areas such as drawing, sculpture, and painting with great success during the semester. Key artworks have included detail still life paintings and jelly-plate printed artworks. (See image below)

Stage 5 ‘Restoring Traditions’ Elective

This semester students have continued to explore a range of art making materials, have created a number of fine artworks utilising various printmaking processes, and produced detailed surrealistic sculptural work in white clay. (See image below)

Stage 5 ‘Here & Now’ Elective

Students have developed skills with black and white design processes and created large lino prints, some of which were hand-coloured. (See image below) These images were also printed on fabric bags to be used as an ‘Art Product’. The class are currently creating large format paintings based on the imagery and techniques of contemporary street artists.

Year 11/12 Visual Arts

Students are now Year 12 HSC Art students – they are currently developing ideas for their Bodies of Work (Major Art Projects) for next year’s HSC.
