Principal's message

Reconciliation image

To again welcome parents and family members into our school and be part of school activities has been a positive return to events involving students, parents and staff. At the athletics carnival, school play, working bee and the music, art and drama (M.A.D.) evening, the support and involvement of parents and carers not only contributed to the success of these events, it renewed the connection between all members of our school community. Although virtual meetings have proved to be successful through time and travel efficiencies, we recognise the positive benefits to our students and broader school community that can only be achieved through face to face contact.

In conjunction with Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week, Smith’s Hill High School students have been involved in the 2021 Walk for Reconciliation Virtual Project in partnership with Bellambi Public School, local Aboriginal Elders, Uncle Richard Archibald and Aunty Sharralyn Robinson. Jasper (Year 12) conducted a series of interviews at our school that were included in the virtual project that can be viewed on the Bellambi Public School website https://bellambi-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

June is Pride month, a month in which the LGBTQI+ community celebrates diversity, quality and inclusion. Tomorrow there will be a “non-school uniform” day (Wednesday 9 June) to celebrate the ideals of Pride month; ideals that align with our school values. It is a day for all of our students to be proud of who they are and wear clothing (appropriate for a school setting) in which they feel comfortable and expresses their individuality. Just as there is no financial cost to demonstrate our school values or the ideals associated with Pride month, there is no cost to students to wear non-school uniform tomorrow.

During the last week of this term (Wednesday 23 June), we will be holding school assemblies for Semester Awards and an induction ceremony for the incoming School Captains and SRC representatives. The Semester Awards recognise the manner in in which students have been demonstrating our School Values in each of their classes.

ENDEAVOUR - striving for the highest personal achievement in all aspects of schooling, individual and community action, work and life-long learning.

RESPECT - having regard for self and others, acknowledging diversity within our society and accepting the right of others to hold different or opposing views.

INTEGRITY - being consistently honest and trustworthy.

COMPASSION – demonstrating concern for the wellbeing of others, demonstrating empathy and acting with care and sensitivity.

HARMONY - working together to achieve common goals, providing support to others and engaging in the peaceful resolution of conflict.

Parents and carers are welcome to attend the Semester Award assemblies and/or the induction ceremony for the incoming School Captains and SRC representatives. We look forward to celebrating the manner in which our students lead and embody our school values to create a strong, positive school culture.
