Smith’s Hill High School is committed to high expectations, excellence and integrity for all of our students and staff. The manner in which students, parents and staff contribute to, support and promote our school values has created a strong positive school culture that is underpinned by mutual respect, inclusivity and a desire to continuously learn and improve each year. As the school plans for ongoing success for the future, it does so from a position of refinement; building upon the success of the past and improving the life and learning outcomes of schooling for students in a rapidly changing world.

When meeting with students, parents and staff last week to consider the draft School Improvement Plan 2021-2024, I was extremely proud of the way in which all stakeholders contributed to discussions focused on the values of our school, what we want to keep strong within our school culture and the areas that will make the biggest difference for students by implementing improvements. I would like to thank everyone for their contributions that have brought about the development of our School Improvement Plan 2021-2024, in addition to the work that Head Teachers have been leading in the development of faculty improvement plans.

The weather may not have been ideal for the Year 10 ‘Bush School’ camp, however, it proved again to be a valuable learning experience for students. Although spending three days apart from one’s digital device(s) was a challenge for many, it was an opportunity for students to re-familiarise themselves with the art of conversation and recreational activities with friends. The supervising staff returned to school with numerous positive reports that commended students for the care and collaboration demonstrated in all aspects of the adventure. I would like to congratulate our Year 10 students for the way in which they engaged with the program and thank all of the staff who attended and made this opportunity possible for our students.

As we approach the end of term one, I would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone all the very best for the upcoming school break. Stay safe - take time to take a breath and consider all that we have in life for which to be grateful.
