Position Title: Presiding Officer

Organisation: Smith’s Hill High School

 

Vacancy Type: Casual (Pay aligned to Department of Education and NESA rates)

Smith’s Hill High School is advertising for Expressions of Interest for the position of Presiding Officer for the Higher School Certificate, the Selective Schools Entry Test, the Opportunity Class Entry Test and the Trial Higher School Certificate in 2020. Position Criteria

The Presiding Officer is responsible for managing the preparation, conduct and supervision of the Higher School Certificate (HSC) examinations, the Selective Schools Entry Test, the Opportunity Class Entry Test and the School’s Trial Higher School Certificate examinations. As Presiding Officer, you will need to be able to use common desktop computer packages (excel, websites and word), be well-organised; show good attention to detail; be able to manage students and effectively organise and supervise the examination/test supervisors.

Position Information

The Presiding Officer is responsible for:

·         liaising with the school Principal or delegate for the examination rooms, set-up, including provision for extra students and additional rooms if required for examinations with a listening component or students granted disability provisions

·         following all directions which have been given by the School, NESA and the High Performance Unit about security and administrative procedures

·         maintaining a high level of confidentiality at all times

·         maintaining strong communication skills with all stakeholders

·         following and observing NESA’s and the High Performance Unit’s Policies and Procedures regarding disability provisions and illness/misadventure applications

·         following and observing all Child Protection, Emergency Evacuation and Workplace Health and Safety procedures and policies.

 All exam supervisors are required to have a Working with Children Check (WWC)  valid for 5 years in any child related employment.  The Presiding Officer will need to be available to supervise the school’s internal HSC Trial examinations from Wednesday 5th August 2020 to Friday 21st August 2020 as well as the official external HSC Examinations in August/September for Languages and 15th October  2020 to 6th November 2020 for all other examinations.

 Smith’s Hill High School hosts the Selective Schools Entry Test on Thursday 12th March and the Opportunity Class Entry Test on Wednesday 31st July.  As such, the Presiding Officer will need to liaise with the High Performance Unit and organise and supervise the tests held on those two separate occasions.

Special Notes

The following restrictions on eligibility for employment as a Test Supervisor exist:

A person who has a child or near relative sitting the 2020 Higher School Certificate Examinations, the Selective Schools Entry Test, and the Opportunity Class Entry Test cannot be appointed as Presiding Officer. Clerical staff, casual, relief, part-time or permanent teachers employed at SHHS cannot be appointed as Presiding Officer.
