On Tuesday the 4 September, the Year 11 and 12 Italian classes went on a cultural excursion to Criniti’s in Wollongong.
We were immersed in the authentic Italian atmosphere upon entering the restaurant, the elegantly decorated walls and traditional decor denoting some of the beauty of Italy. Then greeted by a charming pizza chef, the pizza lesson began.
We were exposed to the traditional techniques of Italian pizza making, kneading and rolling our own dough to our heart's content, after having made it from scratch!
Taken through the pizza making process step by step, the room was filled with flour and laughter as we competed to knead the best pizza dough. Crinitis vouchers were rewarded for the best and worst efforts, but all was in good jest!
Before we were able to top pre-prepared pizza bases with all types of delicious ingredients, we just had to catch the pizza bases first! We stood mesmerized as the pizza chef tossed the pizza bases to us like a frisbee!
With a multitude of italian ingredients to pick from, we sprinkled our pizzas with all sorts of hams and salamis, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes and of course, olives!!
Huddled around benches, doused in flour and exhausted from our hard work, we shared conversation whilst enjoying our pizza. We engaged with each other in some of our very best italian, sharing stories of the fun we had.
The excursion was a great opportunity to be immersed in Italian culture, and learn the authentic italian way to make pizza!
